There been some great  Queenfish action for anglers on surface poppers and subsurface lures with the Lively Lures  Surface Bloopers being the stand out topwater lure for them .

I’ve taken a few fly anglers to target the Morwong in recent times  aka Blue Bastards ,Grey Bastards ,Milf [mother in law fish] Blackall and so on they have quite a few different names but most fly fisho’s know them as Bastards because of their frustrating refusals for fly’s.

These fish are such cagey critters and will test your mental resolve to the limit.

They will swim up to a fly look at it and simply turn away they spook very easily and fly’s need to be presented well in front of them so they find the fly and then small hops strips to get their attention .

Recently I had a session where I managed to win the battle and had a awesome time sight casting these fish in less than a meter of water on the flats of Hervey Bay.

Here’s a few pics from an awesome flats session where I landed 3 and had many more refuse the fly in around 2 hours of targeting them.

Grey Bastards/Blue Bastards are a tough fish to catch on the flats but very rewarding when it happens

bastard release

A healthy release after a quick pic these are NOT a good table fish

The fresh water Barramundi  fished well right through Autumn in Lenthalls Dam and surrounding areas until the water temps dropped making them harder to tempt into eating lures.

barra 6th mat

The 6th Sense swimbaits I’ve been using this season have proved a real winner with the barra.

The Snapper fishing will be the main focus for anglers for the next few months but all of the above species and more are still available here in Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast during winter.snapper reduced
