Relocation to Mackay Region

After 14 years of ¬†guiding on Hervey Bay waters and watching the fishery decline due to over commercial fishing and the ever present sharks these days stealing and wasting good fish that anglers hook ūüôĀ as well ¬†as surrounding fresh water locations like Monduran Dam, Borumba dam ,Lenthalls dam and the upper reaches of the Burrum River I decided a new chapter was needed in my guided fishing life.

So I sold up and moved north the the wonderful Mackay region where I’ll be guiding on Kinchant ,Teemburra and Eungella dams as well as the Pioneer river all a very shot distance for my new home base at Mirani in the Pioneer Valley¬†¬†for Big Barramundi and Sooty Grunter on both surface Fly and Lures as well as subsurface presentations.

I now operate Mackay Fly & Sportfishing here in the Mackay Region I will eventually have a new web site built ¬†but for now I’ll keep using this one until it’s all finalised ¬†and you can check out my Facebook page at¬†https://www.facebook.com/Mackayflyandsportfishing/¬†to keep up to date with whats happening or check my page on Instagram at Mackayflysportfishing

I will also be guiding on the salt water out from Mackay as well as the Seaforth area and continue my passion for guiding anglers on the flats sight casting for a wide range of species like the Golden Trevally which I originally started guiding for and the bay was famous for to fly fisho’s all over the world ¬†but due to miss management that fishery is no longer what it once was .

Up here there are some awesome species to target on the flats sight casting for the fly fisho’s and lure casters ¬†like Trevally, Queenfish ,Barra ,Bastards ¬†,Black Spot Tusk Fish¬†both a real challenge on any gear especially Fly fishing for them then there’s the¬†¬† Permit aka Snubnose Dart¬†which are the Holy Grail for fly fisher persons along with ¬†many other species that feed on the north Queensland flats.

This area simply has so much to offer the fly and sportfishing fanatics and I plan to try and cover it all and will be doing multi-pal day  packages of both fresh and salt to give anglers a real variety for their time up here.

I’m unable ¬†do any saltwater charters in the Marine park ¬†yet due to having to wait until I’m issued with my Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Permit¬†¬†which I hoping wont take to long as I’m very keen to show fly and lure anglers the wonderful flats and reef waters of this region.

Here’s a few pics of some of whats available ¬†at Seaforth where I’ll be doing most of my guiding from¬†in the salt water.

I had a solo session at Teemburra dam and landed this Big Barra on fly ,it’s my new PB on fly and it hit the fly like a passing bus ūüôā and the fight was very intense around the timber .

If your a keen fly fisher person and ever wanted to catch Big Barra on fly and it’s on your bucket list Kinchant and Teemburra dams ¬†are the places to do it and I can show you where they live .

Flights from Brisbane to Mackay and other capital cities and regional areas are quite cheap through Virgin and other airlines so come on up and catch that Barra or Sooty of a life time or have a couple of days up in the Mackay/ Pioneer Valley region  and see what a magnificent place this is.
